The State of Maine is the only state in the nation where citizens do not have the ability to directly participate in the selection of "their" Attorney General. The closest one can get to participating is by voting for the Representatives in the Legislature. These are the individuals to decide who will take the office of Attorney General, following November's Gubernatorial Election.
2025 First Regular Session of the 132nd Legislature Lawmakers proposed an amendment to the Maine Constitution to allow the public to vote for candidates for the Office of the Attorney General
Popular Election of Attorney General - Maine Civic Action
Beginning in 2023, Lawmakers discussed and attempted to amend the Maine Constitution to give the vote to the people, not for Attorney General.

The term "elected official" is perhaps misleading when referring to the State's Officials.
The Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Treasurer, and State Auditor are elected by the State's Legislature, not Citizens.
Maine's Attorney General is elected by the State Legislature through secret vote. The public has no ability to directly participate in the selection of this official.
