The Maine Attorney General is elected by the State Legislature. Term length is two years, limit is four consecutive terms.
According to Aaron Frey's Bio on maine.gov, "he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, and he earned a Juris Doctor from Roger Williams University School of Law in Rhode Island". Prior to being elected by the Legislature to the Office of Attorney General, Frey served several terms in Maine's House of Representatives.
The Attorney General's Office protects the interests of Maine's State Agencies, including defense of these Agencies and prosecution on their behalf. "The primary program responsibility of the Office is to provide advice to and defend the actions of state government, and enforce Maine law." - maine.gov website
The Assistant Attorney General is selected by the Attorney.
"AAGs in this Division also sit on a variety of panels, workgroups and commissions; conduct trainings; and provide counsel to the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Child and Family Services." The AAG is responsible for training CPS Caseworkers and oversight of training staff of the Office of Child and Family Services.
